East Riding of Yorkshire Council has completed its major programme of improvements along the A166 between Fridaythorpe and Stamford Bridge.

The work cost £1.9 million in total, and was carried out on behalf of the council by CEMEX UK, with the funding secured after a successful bid by the council to the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership's Local Growth Fund.

The most recent phase of the project was resurfacing at Garrowby Hill, which took place overnight for five weeks. This phase followed on from major resurfacing and improvement works in Stamford Bridge earlier in the year, and also resurfacing west of Fridaythorpe. The scheme also included some sections of patch repairs carried out in preparation for surface dressing in summer 2019.

Councillor Symon Fraser, portfolio holder for strategic asset management, housing and environment, said : "I would like to thank motorists on this important route between York and the coast for their patience and understanding while we carried out these major works, which have certainly created a much better road surface for all road users."

At Garrowby Hill are (l to r): Chris Bown, project manager; Mark Waterson, principal engineer; Tom Mason, CEMEX UK Operations Manager; and Councillor Symon Fraser,
