East Riding Leisure are supporting the Drowning Prevention Charity's campaign, #Bealifeguard, to find the next generation of everyday heroes.
The Royal Life Saving Society UK's (RLSS UK) new campaign aims to encourage as many people as possible to get involved with lifeguarding and these five East Riding leisure centres are running pool lifeguard courses.
All potential lifeguards in the East Riding are being encouraged to enrol on their local National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) course this summer, to help to address the national shortage of qualified pool lifeguards.
The NPLQ is the most awarded lifeguard qualification in the UK and Ireland – more than 95 per cent of all pool lifeguards are qualified through RLSS UK. It is also recognised internationally.
Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for leisure, tourism and culture, said : "Lifeguards protect people every day and are our everyday heroes. We hope as many people will enrol on to these courses as possible, to give them the skills they need to keep people safe in our swimming pools."

In addition, East Riding Leisure is looking for more swim teachers, to meet the huge demand since swimming lessons were relaunched a few months ago to become the East Riding Leisure Swim Academy.
