ArtWaves is back for 2018, taking over Bridlington Spa and further afield for its fourth year on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 May 2018 with an additional fringe programme running from Monday 7 May.
East Riding's rising visual arts festival showcasing traditional, digital, contemporary and urban art through a carefully tailored programme curated for all; from the experienced artists to those simply looking to see something different.
The 2018 programming is currently underway, featuring favourite artists from previous years alongside a mix of brand new artists in a vast and vibrant line up. The programme will be released in early 2018.
Alongside the release of the next festival dates the highly anticipated Open Exhibition is now live for entries.
The exhibition entry criteria has no set theme as in previous years, allowing artists far and wide to submit their best works on a multitude of themes or subjects that will be judged on artistic quality and appeal before being displayed in what will be the most diverse ArtWaves exhibition to date.
2017 winner of both the audience and judges choice award, Stephen Carvill said, "I was delighted to be the Artwaves Open Exhibition Winner; It meant a great deal that the painting was both the judges overall winner and the audience choice too! A real honour that will give me more confidence to show paintings in the future. Practicing visual art is another fantastic way of pulling people and cultures together in a shared human pursuit that has many benefits. ArtWaves Festival is an opportunity for everyone to be expressive, creative and ingenious in a whole range of art practice; traditional or contemporary."
Lauren Frost, Festival Director, added, "Year on year the competition gains more entries and so we are seeking further prizes from bigger name sponsors to support that growth. This year will be particularly interesting to see the variety of artworks submitted without the limitations of a set theme and I can't wait to see exhibition in May."
The festival is offering cash prizes totaling £1,200 to the winners alongside sponsored prizes from some well known art supplier companies.
Councillor Richard Burton, Portfolio Holder for Civic Well-being and Culture said, "The Open Exhibition is a fantastic and growing part of the festival, giving artists from the region and beyond the opportunity to submit their artworks and showcase their artistic talents. It's a fantastic opportunity and one I encourage all to enter into and to see the pieces as part of the festival"
Entries will be publicly displayed in Bridlington Spa's Gallery for the duration of the festival week and weekend.
A separate children's exhibition will be released alongside the main programme later in the year.
