How to improve your Twitter click through rate

Firstly - What is click through rate and why does it matter?
Click through rate is the number of people who click on the links included in your Tweets. Adding clickable links in tweets is one of the most important and effective ways to build a mailing list, sell your products and build followers. Use links in your Tweets to send followers to your web site or blog to find your news, advice, offers, to sign up to your mailing list and join you on Facebook.

If you sell directly to consumers tweet with offer and new product links at weekends and evenings. In your tweets include links to specific pages and to pages that relate to your offer or blog. Don't only add links at the end of your tweets add some in the middle to add interest.
If you sell business to business include some tweets with links to articles and web sites other than your own. Include offers and free advice links in your Tweets with a link back to your web site, blog or specific social media pages.

To find out how successful your tweets with links have been you can view click throughs to your web site in your Google analytics data. Use the responses to improve offers and advice in your future tweets.

Other ways to improve your click through rate:

  • Add calls to actions in your tweets e.g. click to take 15% off .....
  • Add images
  • Check your links work
  • Don't send out too many tweets with offers in the same time period they will be seen as spam
  • Ask a question e.g. What's your favourite picnic recipe
  • Use simple clear language
  • Send links to genuine offers and original news and advice
