Withernsea 30 Miles from Bridlington

With miles of sandy beaches and plenty of family entertainment, Withernsea is perfect for a relaxing day at the seaside, and enjoys the atmosphere of a smaller, more traditional resort. Withernsea provides plenty of entertainment for everyone on and off the beach, including a market area which is open several days a week, and the Valley Gardens, a beautifully landscaped open space with seating, children's playgrounds and a stage which, in the main season, along with the seafront, is the platform for a host of free open air concerts, events and activities. An entertainments programme for the season is available from any Tourist Information Centre.

In the town centre, the Lighthouse Museum features RNLI, HM Coastguard exhibits, a lovely garden and tea room, a local history room and a memorial to the 1950s film star Kay Kendall. This local girl brought a touch of glamour to Withernsea. She married Rex Harrison shortly before her tragic death in 1959 at the age of just 32, and after a string of high profile affairs with minor royalty and co-stars. Climb the 144 steps up the 127 ft lighthouse tower for breathtaking views over the town, out to sea, along the coast and across the flat landscape of Holderness.

The Pier Towers on the promenade are the last surviving part of the once proud 19th century pier. The splendid beach provides plenty of enjoyment for all.

The Pavilion Leisure Centre boasts excellent facilities, both wet and dry, with its superb swimming pool, gym, sauna, sports hall and squash courts.
The habitual shoppers can benefit from the excellent selection of shops in Queen Street and around the town. The Withernsea Market provides the usual varied array of stalls.

Like many seaside resorts, Withernsea has a wide promenade which reaches north and south from Pier Towers. The Pier Towers have been refurbished.

What seaside resort would be complete without the amusement arcades and Withernsea is certainly no let down. A good selection is available ranging from the 'one armed bandits' to the latest video game technology and from bowling alleys to children's adventure playgrounds.

Eating out provides many options as the friendly pubs, restaurant cafes and takeaways spoil you for choice.

Tourist attractions are in abundance both inland and coastal. Surrounding Withernsea are numerous interesting villages in a patchwork of open countryside, including the historic town of Hedon, Hornsea with its excellent Freeport shopping complex and beautiful mere, the famous Spurn Point with its bird sanctuary, and the fascinating Fort Paull.

The £700,000 Millennium Green and Children's Play Park located off Station Road, Withernsea were officially opened in 2010. The project has been funded through the Department for Children, Schools and Families under the Play Pathfinder Scheme.
The park boasts various equipment for children such as swings, slides and climbing apparatus along with other facilities, including a changing room and toilet. Young people will also be able to take part in making crafts, playing energetic games, playing in the sand pit, or helping to grow vegetables.

Children are free to come and go, although under eights need adult supervision.
