Standing 22ft. high, the
memorial is made of Darley Dale stone, and stands on a
two-step plinth.
It has two display panels
containing the names of the fallen. The bronzes are named
“Victory crowning the fallen” and “The men who kept the
seaway,” and they pay homage to the 320 gallant dead.
Twenty-six of the men served
at sea, ten were air force members, the remaining men
serving with the army.
The arms of Bridlington and
Yorkshire are displayed on the shields above the name
panels.
The bronzes were cast by
Messrs Burton, of Thames Ditton, who also cast the bronzes
of Queen Victoria outside Buckingham Palace. |
