Bridlington Priory South-West Tower Window
The
window immediately over the South-West door depicts in the five
lower lights, reading from left to right, the following scenes:-
(I) The Annunciation, To the left is
depicted the angel Gabriel and on the right the Blessed Virgin Mary,
The Holy Spirit is symbolised by the dove overhead, The inscription
carries the words "Gratia Plena".
(2) The meeting of the Blessed Virgin
Mary and her cousin Elisabeth.
(3) The Nativity Scene, under which are the words "Ad Dei Gloriam".
(4) The Presentation of the Infant Christ in the Temple, The aged
priest Simeon is represented as about to receive the Holy Child.
(5) Here is shown the Baptism of our Blessed Lord in the River
Jordan by John the Baptist. The Holy Spirit is depicted in the form
of a dove descending upon the Saviour. In the scroll beneath are the
words "Hic est filius meus dilectus". |
