Bridlington Priory Mural Tablets
The
first group of memorials are to the Creyke family. The detail of the
carved pall in marble which drapes the urn so realistically is
worthy of attention.
The large brass is unique for its
size and inscription which commemorates no less than 32 members of
the family from 1567-1877.
Note the play on the name by the
corncrake which surmounts the amorial. The next tablet is in memory
of Robert Medforth for 33 years a Church warden of the Priory who
was elected first Mayor of the Borough of Bridlington on its
incorporation in 1899.The large blue stone is remarkable for its
carved inscription and design. In the circle of carved foliage is a
lozenge-shaped panel bearing three small lozenge-shaped panels on
each of which is carved a fleur-de-lis. |
