The Waterloo Pierrots were probably the first such troupe to entertain visitors in the north of England, and certainly in Bridlington. They were definitely among the holidaymakers’ favourites and were usually to be found on the north side of the harbour. From 1893 they appeared in various venues in the town: the Summer Gardens, The New Spa and on the beach near Children’s Corner.

The tower block which overlooks the harbour is to appear in a remake of the classic disaster movie Towering Inferno. Ebor Flats, Bridlington’s non-favourite building, will be part of the setting for the updated version of the film, which is to be directed by Steven Spielberg. Ewan McGregor, Harrison Ford and Pamela Anderson are currently discussing the possibility of starring in the movie.

Christmas at Burton Agnes Hall

Burton Agnes Hall is a beautiful Elizabethan house well worth a visit if you are in the Bridlington area. Decorated in readiness for Christmas it has the "Wow" factor. Unlike some large houses it has a warm, friendly and welcoming feel to it.

Town Hall clock goes digital

Japanese electronics giant Seiko and the town council are to carry out trials in April 2009 for a digital clock face to replace the traditional circular timepiece on top of Bridlington Town Hall, or as it is now known the Customer Service Centre.

This is one of the stories that I enjoy about Bridlington. I admire immensely the men of the sea and all that they have to do to survive on the treacherous waters. That a Bridlington man should have sailed into Arctic waters only to find Sir John Ross, who had been missing for years, I find amazing. They really were men in those days, both the explorers and the men who chased whales.

Residents of Bridlington first heard of a vessel being named after their town in an announcement in the Bridlington Chronicle of 28th July 1939.
A small paragraph read: “Amongst the names which have been approved for certain ships of Britain’s 1939 naval construction programme figures that of HMS Bridlington.” She was to be a Bangor class minesweeper.

Sewerby Hall Gardens The animals are being moved to their winter quarters. The trees are taking on their Autumn colours.

I have enjoyed a relaxing afternoon in the Gardens at Sewerby Hall . Entry to the gardens is now free now that the summer visitors have gone.

The animals are being moved out of the fields and into their winter quarters. I am sure I have taken a photo of a Llama...
