Chris Matthews has been unanimously elected as chair of the North Eastern Inshore Fisheries Conservation Authority (NEIFCA) at its annual meeting held on 20 July. Chris is an East Riding of Yorkshire Councillor and previously held the position of vice-chair of North Eastern IFCA.
Chris has 41 years experience in local government as an officer working in general municipal engineering, with over 20 years experience in flood protection and coastal management including project management of shoreline management plans and coastal strategies for both the North East Coastal Authorities Group and Humber Estuary Coastal Authorities Group.
In 2003, Chris was elected to serve as a councillor for the Bridlington North Ward of East Riding of Yorkshire Council and has held several senior roles representing the council on a wide range of groups and organisations.
Chris is passionate about the region's coasts and seas and its local communities."NEIFCA carries a proud legacy of protecting and conserving our local marine resources for future generations and I'm proud to now play a key role in furthering that important work," said Councillor Matthews following his election.

Chris will be supported by new vice-chair, Dr Stephen Axford, who has extensive fisheries management experience.
