East Riding of Yorkshire Council is holding a drop-in event for people interested in finding out more about fostering, adoption and providing supported lodgings to young people who are leaving care.
The event will be held on Saturday 13 May at East Riding Leisure Haltemprice, from 10am to 12 noon. Members of staff from each service will be on hand in the cafe area where people can pick up information and find out more.
Supported lodgings is a scheme which enables young people aged 16 to 21 to be offered accommodation in a home environment when leaving foster or residential care. There will also be information for people interested in becoming an independent visitor, a volunteer who befriends and visits a child or young person living in the care of the local authority.
The information event is being held during Foster Care Fortnight, which will take place from Monday May 8 to Sunday May 21 2017. Its theme is 'foster care transforms lives'.
In the East Riding there are currently 227 children in foster care, and the council is looking to recruit around 20 to 25 new carers each year.
Anyone interested in finding out more information can either go along to the event, contact firstname.lastname@example.org or ring (01482) 396469.
