Keen readers and aspiring authors are being invited to go 'Author Speed Dating' at Beverley Library – and you don't even have to be single!

Seven authors from across the literary spectrum will visit the library on Saturday 10 June, from 1pm to 3.30pm, to each give a short talk about their work and career and then meet members of the public afterwards.

Each author will have 10 minutes to speak to the audience about their writing, their inspirations, how they got their work published, what they are working on now, and maybe even give a reading.

Once every writer has given their talk, the audience will be free to move around the room chatting to the authors and getting tips and ideas for themselves, or to simply purchase books.

The authors taking part in the event are:

• Val Pate – Millie Loves Autumn/The Fox and the Hedgehog (Children's)
• Cassandra Parkin – Lily's House/The Beach Hut (Adult Fiction)
• Martin Gore – The Road to Cromer Pier (2016) Pen Pals (First Novel/Adult Fiction)
• John Ashbrook – Twisted 50 Horror (Short Stories)
• Colin and Fleur Speakman – The Yorkshire Wolds – A Journey of Discovery (Non Fiction/Local Interest)
• Catherine Scott – The Brazen Maiden (Poetry)

The event is the first of its kind to be held in East Riding Libraries.

Tracey Booth, librarian at Beverley Library, said: "If you've read everything by your favourite authors and are looking for something new to try, why not let a collection of handpicked authors pitch for your affections and rekindle your love of reading?

"This 'Author Speed Dating' event is perfect for anyone who enjoys readying or finding out about new authors, and especially anyone aspiring to become an author."

Tickets for the 'Author Speed Dating' event cost £2 each and are available from Beverley Library, by phone on 01482 392699, or online at www.eastriding.gov.uk/events

Booking is essential as places are limited. The event is not suitable for children.
